Lord, I Know You Said Turn Right, But I Need Some Time to Think About It
After praying and praying, the Lord finally gives you the the answer you’ve been waiting on, but there’s one problem…you still need more time to think about it. But do you really? If you’ve been praying about which city you should move to and He gives you an answer, why would you need to consider a different city other than the one that He has chose for you? He said what He said. When God answers a prayer that requires you to begin to act immediately, why delay yourself unnecessarily? Of course, there are times when the Lord will show you something and wants you to wait before taking action, and if you find yourself constantly running ahead of God, it may be better for you to pray time-specific prayers. Ex. “Father, when it’s time for me to start the business that You have given me, show me what the business should be called, in the name of Jesus”. Then, when He shows you the name, you know that it’s the right time, even if His answer comes at a time that seems inconvenient to you.
But her brother and her mother said, “Let the young woman stay with us a few days, say ten; afterward she may go.” However, he said to them, “Do not delay me, since the Lord has prospered my way. Send me away so that I may go to my master.”
Genesis 24:55-56 NASB
Don’t Try To Delay His Plans
In Chapter 24 of Genesis, we see Abraham send his servant to the land of his relatives to find a wife. After his servant makes it to the city of Nahor, he prays a specific prayer,
And he said, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. Behold, I am standing by the spring, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water; now may it be that the young woman to whom I say, ‘Please let down your jar so that I may drink,’ and who answers, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels also’—may she be the one whom You have appointed for Your servant Isaac; and by this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.”
Genesis 24:12-14 NASB
After this, He sees and approaches Rebekah to find out whether or not she is the one God has chosen for Isaac according to his prayer. She does everything in accordance with what he had prayed, thus he received his answer from the Lord. Her father and brother agree to give her away in marriage to Isaac, but on the day of her departure, her mother and brother propose that she stay with them for a few more days. The servant disagrees and says that they must get going. Why? Because the Lord has already answered. There is no need to delay what God is doing. Rebekah was never forced to go with the servant, but after her mother and brother asked her if she wanted to leave, she said yes, it was her choice, further confirming that this was indeed the will of the Lord. Once the servant received confirmation the first time, that was all he needed. He didn’t ask for more signs because the first one was enough. There’s nothing wrong with asking for more confirmation, but as believers, we should get to the point where we’re able to discern God’s voice so clearly, that we don’t have to continue to ask for a million more signs to confirm what He is saying. In conclusion, if you know God’s voice, you’ve prayed about something and received confirmation, there’s no need to overthink because He’s already shown you the answer. When he says go, GO!
